At IPPL, we believe that primate welfare and
conservation go hand in hand. That’s why when you adopt a rescued gibbon at IPPL’s sanctuary, your donation will be used to protect wild
gibbons and their native habitats.
By adopting one IPPL gibbon, you can reach thousands more in need.
Adoption is £24 for a year and includes a photo and profile of
your gibbon, a personalised certificate, an IPPL window sticker, and our triannual newsletters. IPPL covers the very small cost of these items so 100% of your donation goes to helping gibbons overseas.
Meet the gibbons...
Whoop-Whoop
We do not have a wealth of information about Whoop-Whoop’s life before he was brought to the IPPL sanctuary, but we do know that he spent some time at the now notorious New Iberia primate research laboratory, which carried out disease
experiments on gibbons. Considering his traumatic past, he is an amazingly gentle character; he has never been known to hurt anyone, human or
gibbon! Although we estimate he is around 30, he looks very young, particularly as he has a love of
colourful toys and is often clutching one of them. Whoop-Whoop has recently
been introduced
to Courtney, a much younger, exuberant female,
who is keeping
him on his toes!
Elizabeth
Elizabeth was born in captivity at an amusement park in Florida.
Soon after birth, her mother rejected her. This early trauma seems
to have left its mark on Elizabeth, who is often seen sucking her thumb. Her story has a happy ending though. After being raised from the tender age of nine months by the team at IPPL, when the time was right, she was introduced to Ahimsa, a sociable male gibbon, and the two have formed a bond for life. Elizabeth has a very sweet and affectionate disposition and, though a normal gibbon in her behaviour, she will still come over to request a friendly back scratch from the carers involved in raising her.
