Primates are under threat

TRADING & EXPLOITATION

Primates are still cruelly used in circuses, chained and imprisoned to entertain tourists, traded as pets, and exploited for biomedical research. The trade in wild-caught primates devastates whole populations. For every survivor, ten others may die.

HABITAT DESTRUCTION

Rainforests are being lost to agriculture, logging and mining. When the forests disappear, so do the primates that depend on them.

HUNTING

Numerous primates are killed for the bushmeat trade, feeding a growing tourist and export market for this exotic 'delicacy'. In some cases, the bodies of adult monkeys are sold as meat while their live babies are displayed next to them for sale as pets.
